No More Cuts. Protect the CBC.

This is a critical moment for CBC/Radio-Canada.
On December 4th, our national public broadcaster announced the elimination of 800 positions, amounting to about 10% of its workforce. As you can imagine, these cuts will deal a huge blow to CBC/Radio-Canada, and to its many viewers and listeners across the country.
The worst part? This could all have been avoided.
The current Liberal government was elected on a $400 million promise to revitalize our national public broadcaster and make it less reliant on advertising. Now, after two years of inaction, the government’s most recent budget projects a 3.33% cut to all federal Crown Corporations, which includes CBC/Radio-Canada. This will mean cuts to its parliamentary appropriation over the next three years, starting with a $10 million slash in 2024-2025.
To put it bluntly, these latest, devastating announcements are the result of the Liberals’ about-face on their promise to defend our national public broadcaster. And it could not have come at a worse time.
Now, more than ever, we need to have a national conversation about the future of CBC/Radio-Canada. But in order to do that, we first need to stabilize its funding. These further reductions will only serve to make our national public broadcaster more vulnerable to Pierre Poilievre's Conservatives, who want nothing more than to tear it down by brick.
Thankfully, there is still time to change course. But we need your help.
Write to the government today and tell them to exempt CBC/Radio-Canada from this round of budget cuts.
