Special Petition for CeaseFire.ca supporters:

Tell the CBC Board "Don't mess with The National"

6153 people have taken action so far

A small circle of senior managers at the CBC has quietly developed a plan to move the public broadcaster's flagship news program The National from 10 pm to 11 pm on weeknights.

After Friends of Canadian Broadcasting blew the whistle on this ill advised scheme, CBC management denied the existence of the plan. A staff person who works for President Hubert Lacroix has written to some concerned viewers denying any planned move of The National.

However, we must remain vigilant on this matter because of our repeated recent experience with senior CBC officials contradicting themselves on key matters such as placing ads on CBC Radio and changes to Radio 2.

Please stand up for public broadcasting and sign the petition below.

To: the CBC Board of Directors

The National is CBC English TV’s flagship news program and its reputation for hard hitting and award winning journalism is known far and wide.  We the undersigned oppose any measure that would diminish The National’s influence on public affairs in Canada or its audience.

We urge the CBC Board of Directors to declare that The National will remain the centrepiece of CBC News and that no decisions relating to its scheduling, funding, or format will be taken that will have the effect of diminishing the important role The National plays to inform Canadians and to hold powerful interests to account.
